The intensified efforts under a multi pronged strategy of the district administration have helped bring under control the transmission of the viral dengue disease with zero death across the district.
The Deputy Commissioner Haripur Waseem Ahmed claimed this on Thursday while briefing the journalists about the dengue fever and the measures that the administration and health department have jointly taken to protect the residents of Haripur from the killer disease. He said that in line with the directives from the provincial government the active engagement of all the line departments, private educational institutions, social activists and local community was ensured and the communities especially in hotspot areas were educated about the protection measures against the mosquito bite during daily based community sessions. “Daily survillance of hotspot areas, identification of mosquito breeding spots, targetted home sprays helped us control the transmission of dengue as compared to the year 2022 which was the worst of its kind in terms of dengue fever transmission”, he informed the media. He said that under the supervision of Assistant Commissioners of all Tehsils and the district entomologists the staff of DHO office, concerned TMAs and line departments conduct daily visits to the nurseries, block factories, tyre shops, open water containers and houses of hotspot areas. The Deputy Commissioner said that 19 block factories, 36 tyre shops, were cleared with anti larval spray while 51 solid waste dumping sites were cleared during a single day anti dengue activity.
Sharing the statistics of dengue fever situation in the district the DC claimed that there was not a single dengue induced death reported from across the district during the last two months while a total of138 cases of dengue positive were reported out of which only 11 infected persons were still hospitalized and rest of them have recovered completely.
To a question he said that Haripur witnessed the year 2022 as the worst year in terms of dengue fever’s onset when during the quarter of July to September 2022 the district reported 400 cases while by the end of November of that year (2022) there were 1186 confirmed cases of dengue fever with some death as well. “But look at the most updated statistics of the year 2025 we have only 138 cases with zero death which is the result of community and administration’s joint efforts”, he claimed and expressed the hope that the situation would improve further with the changing weather. He urged the residents of Haripur to play their role in controlling the disease by maintaining cleanliness in and around their homes and avoid water accumulation, use mosquito nets, keep water containers covered, and arrange for mosquito-killing sprays where necessary.
