Somalia to launch Civil Registration and Vital Statistics System with support of NADRA Mogadishu. In a monumental step towards enhancing identity management and governance in Somalia, the Civil Registration Management and Vital Statistics (CRMVS) System was handed over by NADRA to the Government of Somalia on November 30, 2024.
The CRMVS System is the second key deliverable from the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), following the successful deployment of the National Identity Management System (NIMS) last year in collaboration with (NIRA). The NIMS was launched during Somalia’s inaugural National ID Conference, organised by NIRA and held in Mogadishu on ID Day, September 16, 2023. Together, these systems form the foundational infrastructure essential for implementing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and providing Somali citizens with easy access to legal identification.
The CRMVS tailored system developed by NADRA adheres the basic requirements of Somali Citizen’s. This initiative is part of the Somalia National Identification System (SNIDS) project, implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs & Reconciliation (MOIFAR), Somalia. It is financed through a grant provided by the Government of Pakistan, reflecting the strong ties of brotherhood between the two nations.
The CRMVS System will not only bolster security but also pave the way for inclusive development, financial empowerment, and improved governance. It exemplifies NADRA’s unwavering commitment to excellence and our dedication to supporting our global partners, serving the third-largest demographic in the world.”
