The Embassy in Damascus will be headed by Vítězslav Pivoňka

The Czech Republic continues to restore its diplomatic presence in Syria. Long-time Czech diplomat Vítězslav Pivoňka will soon take over the management of the Czech embassy in Damascus in the capacity of chargé d’affaires.

” The Czech Republic’s diplomatic activity in Syria is specific to the role of the US protecting power in the country, which is why it is important that our office is led by a senior diplomat. The future direction is important not only for the people of Syria, but also for the entire Middle East region. I wish Mr. Pivoňek much success in his new role, ” said Minister Jan Lipavský.

” Today, new history is being written in Syria for the entire region. Being there is a professional challenge for me and I honor all the responsibility, ” added Vítězslav Pivoňka about his posting.

The Czech Republic has been helping the hard-hit people of Syria for a long time. Practically since the beginning of the civil war in the country, we have been providing humanitarian and stabilization assistance to the most vulnerable groups of the population, which, among other things, contributes to alleviating migration pressures from the region. In 2024, the Government of the Czech Republic approved the continuation of the Reconstruction Program in the Middle East region for another three years; for its successful implementation in Syria, our diplomatic presence in the country is absolutely essential.
