Minister of Foreign Affairs Jan Lipavský visited Bosnia and Herzegovina on October 9-10, 2024, where he held talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmedin Konaković, members of the Presidency, including President Denis Bečirović, members of the collegiums of both chambers of Parliament and a high representative of the international community for Bosnia and Herzegovina by Christian Schmidt.

” The biggest topic that resonates here in Bosnia and Herzegovina is EU enlargement and the enlargement process and bringing Bosnia and Herzegovina closer to the Union. The big thing is that this year she got candidate status and now it’s a matter of how to open talks, ” said the head of Czech diplomacy. ” Exchanges of experience on how to modify individual legislation or how to operate within the Union have been ongoing for a long time, ” added the minister regarding Czech-Bosnian cooperation in the area of integration of the Balkan country into the EU.

As part of the trip, Minister Lipavský confirmed Czech aid to Bosnia and Herzegovina after the devastating floods that affected the country last week. The Czech Republic donated one million crowns as humanitarian aid to the town of Konjic, which was one of the most affected areas. At the same time, the non-governmental organization People in Need, whose long-term operation in Bosnia and Herzegovina is financially supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, changed the existing humanitarian project, and the Czech Republic thus set aside additional money for repairing the damage.

On the agenda of negotiations with partners in Sarajevo were bilateral political and economic relations, Czech support for the integration of Bosnia and Herzegovina into the EU, the domestic political situation in the country and the situation in the region.
