On Monday, October 14, 2024, Minister of Foreign Affairs Jan Lipavský will represent the Czech Republic at the meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council (FAC), which will take place in Luxembourg. The main topics will be the ongoing Russian war against Ukraine and the tense situation in the Middle East. Also on the agenda is an informal discussion with the British foreign minister or the situation in Georgia, Moldova and the Horn of Africa.
The heads of diplomacy of the EU member states will be joined by the new Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha via video conference for the first point of discussion, who will inform his counterparts about the current situation in Ukraine. Politicians will discuss military aid to the attacked country, including an evaluation of the use of money from frozen Russian assets. They will also discuss the preparation of Ukraine for the coming winter.
Another item on the agenda will be an informal working lunch with British Foreign Secretary David Lammy, where the ministers will talk about common geopolitical and security issues. The topical issue will be the pre-election situation in Moldova and Georgia, the security situation in Somalia, and post-election developments in Venezuela.
This will be followed by a debate on the Middle East. The head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, will inform his colleagues about the results of his trip to the region. After that, the ministers will focus specifically on the military escalation between Israel and the Lebanese terrorist movement Hezbollah.
