Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has said that Afghanistan should not be left alone to escape the situation of the nineties.
Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi had a telephone conversation with Joseph Borrell, Head of Foreign Affairs of the European Union, in which they discussed the changing situation in Afghanistan and regional peace and order. The Foreign Minister briefed Joseph Borrell on Pakistan’s efforts to evacuate foreign diplomatic staff and others from Afghanistan.
Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that he was happy that the views of Pakistan and European countries on Afghanistan were in agreement. Pakistan supports collective political settlement for lasting peace in Afghanistan. In the current context, Pakistan seeks to ensure the protection of the lives and property of Afghan citizens and their rights.
The Foreign Minister said that the success of the ongoing talks in Kabul was essential for lasting peace in Afghanistan. Afghanistan must not be left alone to escape the situation of the 1990s.
Shah Mehmood Qureshi called on the international community to play a role in rebuilding Afghanistan and providing economic assistance to the Afghan people. The Foreign Minister also assured the European Union of all possible assistance in the withdrawal of diplomatic staff from Afghanistan.
