The ICC has announced its intention to move the T20 World Cup from India to the United Arab Emirates

DUBAI : The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced plans to move this year’s T20 World Cup from India to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

 

The ICC Board meeting discussed the ICC events from 2024 to 2031, as well as the T20 World Cup to be held in India this year. The ICC has directed the World Cup Management Committee to focus on preparations for the T20 World Cup to be held in the United Arab Emirates, along with the option of including another Gulf country. However, the final decision on the host venue will be made later this month.

 

The ICC Board decided in the meeting that there will now be 20 teams in the T20 World Cup while 14 teams will be included in the ODI World Cup. The 20 teams participating in the T20 will be divided equally into 4 groups, the top two teams of each team will make it to the Super 8 stage after which there will be semi-finals and finals, seven groups of seven teams in the World Cup. Three teams will make it to the Super Six stage.
