Minister Lipavský will attend the May EU Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels

On Monday, 27 May 2024, a meeting of EU Foreign Ministers (FAC) will take place in Brussels. Czechia will be represented at the meeting by Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský. The main topics of the meeting will be the Russian war in Ukraine, sanctions and the current situation in the Middle East. The ministers will also discuss current events in Georgia and the political situation in Venezuela and Haiti.

 

The first item on the agenda of the EU Foreign Affairs Council will be Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, including the military support for the invaded country. EU officials will be joined by their Ukrainian counterpart Dmytro Kuleba via videoconference. As part of the discussion on current issues, ministers will focus on developments in Georgia regarding the adoption of the Foreign Agents Act and the situation in Latin America, specifically in Venezuela and Haiti. The politicians will also discuss the current situation in the Middle East. Representatives of several Arab countries, including the Secretary-General of the Arab League, will join the debate.

 

Before the Council meeting, Minister Lipavský will attend a dinner in the format of the Bucharest Nine (B9) ministers, where the strengthening of the Alliance’s eastern wing will be discussed. The B9 is a grouping of Czechia, Estonia, Hungary, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Romania and Slovakia
