President Asif Ali Zardari arrived in Turkmenistan today to attend two day International Forum on “Interrelation of Times and Civilizations-Basis of Peace and Development” commencing in Ashgabat. International Forum is being held to mark 300th birth anniversary of Magtymguly Faragi, a great Turkmen thinker, poet and philosopher. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced the termination of contracts with five Independent Power Producers (IPPs) saying this will lead to reduction in the prices of electricity. Chairing the federal cabinet meeting in Islamabad today, he said this has been done after the mutual consent of the owners of the IPPs. A meeting of Cabinet Committee on Energy chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad today approved in principle the formation of an Independent System and Market Operator (ISMO) for generation and purchase of electricity.
