The third year of the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was officially opened on September 1, 2025, in the presence of State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Radek Rubeš. New employees of the ministry will undergo a five-month program at the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which is intended to prepare them for work in the service of the Czech Republic.
The basic diplomatic training program will focus on the practical part of diplomatic service. Participants will attend a series of lectures, discussions, visits to institutions and meetings with important guests. After successfully completing the program, they will be fully qualified to perform foreign service at the ministry and Czech embassies.
Traditionally, the individual years of basic diplomatic training are named after significant figures in Czech diplomacy. The third year is named after the diplomat, writer and politician Jiří Gruša. Among other things, he contributed to the development of Czech-German relations after the fall of the Iron Curtain on a political and cultural level and headed the renowned Diplomatic Academy in Vienna.
On the first day of September, the presentation of certificates of completion of the program and the farewell to the graduates of the previous cycle – the class of Rita Klímová – took place. Although the graduates have been fulfilling their work duties in various departments of the ministry for a month, they gathered for this ceremonial occasion to symbolically pass the baton to their successors, who continue the tradition of training new employees of the Czech Foreign Service.
The next year of basic diplomatic training will begin in February 2026 and the selection process for applicants is open until September 19, 2025. More detailed information about the selection process, including its schedule and answers to frequently asked questions, is available on the ministry’s website.
