Foreign Minister contacts Saudi counterpart to discuss situation in Afghanistan
Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi had a telephone conversation with his Saudi counterpart Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud. The two Foreign Ministers discussed issues of mutual interest, including bilateral relations and the current situation in Afghanistan.
The Foreign Minister conveyed the best wishes of the Pakistani leadership to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques of Saudi Arabia, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman.
The Foreign Minister thanked the Saudi Foreign Minister for convening an emergency meeting of the OIC Permanent Delegates on the current situation in Afghanistan and said that a peaceful Afghanistan was of utmost importance not only to Pakistan but to the entire region.
Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that we expect the Afghan leaders to move towards a collective political settlement for lasting peace in Afghanistan. He called on the international community to take practical steps to rebuild Afghanistan and provide economic assistance to Afghans.
He briefed his Saudi counterpart on Pakistan’s assistance in evacuating diplomatic staff, workers of international organizations and media representatives from various countries in Kabul.
Expressing satisfaction over the current state of bilateral relations, the two Foreign Ministers agreed to further strengthen them and decided to continue consultations on issues of mutual interest.
