On December 7, 2024, Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský took part in the Doha Forum international conference in Qatar, which focuses on current global issues and challenges. He spoke at the forum as part of a panel discussion on the current situation in Ukraine, which has been facing Russian aggression for almost three years. The minister emphasized the global nature of the conflict and Russia’s imperial ambitions.
” Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine is not just a local or European conflict. It is a global war with far-reaching consequences. Many international players are involved,” said Minister Lipavský during his speech in Doha.
As part of his visit to Qatar, the minister also held several bilateral meetings. He discussed the dynamic development of Czech-Qatari relations, especially cooperation in the fields of diplomacy, trade, investments and energy, with the Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Muhammad bin Abdulrahman Al Thani. They also talked about the delivery of humanitarian aid to Ukraine.
He discussed strengthening cooperation in the field of security and defense with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defense Sheikh Saud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani. The minister expressed support for Qatar as an important partner of the North Atlantic Alliance.
With the chairman of the Munich Security Conference, Christoph Heusgen, he focused on European security issues and global challenges. They agreed that transatlantic cooperation should continue to be strengthened.
Minister Lipavský described his participation in the forum and the meetings held as an important step in strengthening relations between the Czech Republic, Qatar and key partners in the Middle East and Europe region. ” The Doha Forum represents an important platform for dialogue on today’s fundamental issues, and I am glad that we were able to highlight Czech priorities here,” he added.
