Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Israel Gideon Sa’ar arrived in the Czech Republic on his first official trip abroad. The ministers discussed the current situation in the Middle East and bilateral cooperation.
“I welcome the ceasefire agreement with Hezbollah that will allow the people of northern Israel and southern Lebanon to return to their homes. This agreement is a hope for calming the situation in the entire region,” said Minister Lipavský right at the beginning of the meeting.
Mutual relations between the Czech Republic and Israel are characterized by a long tradition and a common historical legacy. Israel is our strategic partner in the Middle East. “Israel is now fighting on several fronts and needs the support of its own more than ever allies . The Czech Republic stood firmly on the side of the Israelis, both before and after October 7, 2023. We repeatedly emphasize Israel’s right to self-defense against terror,” the head of Czech diplomacy expressed support for Israel. In addition, Minister Lipavský was the first foreign statesman to visit Israel after the attacks on October 7, 2023.
The Czech Republic is also active in humanitarian aid, the situation in the Gaza Strip is critical in this regard. Help is particularly needed in the segments of electricity and fuel, food, healthcare, water and sanitation, shelter, education and protection of civilians. “Czech diplomacy deals with the humanitarian situation in Gaza on a daily basis. So far, I have signed aid worth over one million dollars, which came from the budget of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,” said Minister Lipavský at the press conference.
