Panjshir: Taliban claim control of several areas

Fighting continues between the Taliban and Ahmed Massoud’s forces in Afghanistan’s Panjshir Valley, with both sides claiming heavy casualties.

According to the foreign news agency, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid has said that their fighters have entered Panjshir and captured several areas.

He said the operation was launched after talks with a local armed group failed, inflicting heavy losses on the opposition.

A spokesman for the Afghan National Resistance Movement said they had control of all gates and entrances.

He claimed that the Taliban’s efforts to seize the inner part of the valley in the Shuttle district had been thwarted.

A spokesman for the Afghan National Resistance Movement said a large number of Taliban fighters had been targeted in two locations since the fighting began earlier this week.

The Taliban, on the other hand, say the Panjshir Valley is surrounded on all sides and the insurgents’ success is impossible, but the insurgents have refused to surrender.
