Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that peace, security and a comprehensive political solution are important in Afghanistan. The opportunity to end the 40-year-old Afghan conflict should not be wasted so that Afghans can have lasting peace, security and prosperity. The United States will continue to provide full support to the humanitarian mission in Afghanistan.

 

He made the remarks in a telephone conversation with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Saturday. The two leaders discussed developments in Afghanistan, with a special focus on the humanitarian situation.

 

Prime Minister Imran Khan highlighted the importance of a comprehensive political solution and peace and stability in Afghanistan. The Prime Minister said there was a need not to waste the opportunity to end the 40-year-old conflict in Afghanistan so that Afghans could have lasting peace, security and prosperity.

 

The Prime Minister called on the international community to forge closer ties with Afghanistan that address humanitarian needs as a top priority and ensure economic stability. Large-scale evacuations will also be halted and the refugee crisis in Afghanistan will be averted.

 

The Prime Minister appreciated the key role of the United Nations in providing much needed humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people. In this regard, the Prime Minister highlighted the facilities being provided by Pakistan to the United Nations, including assistance in evacuation and relocation efforts.

 

Informing UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres of the fulfillment of Pakistan’s mandate, he reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to full cooperation in the uninterrupted operation for Afghanistan on the basis of humanitarian sympathy.
