By Wasif Ali Khan

ISLAMABAD : Prime Minister Imran Khan has had a telephone conversation with his former Malaysian counterpart Mahathir Mohamad. The two leaders strongly condemned the Israeli airstrikes on worshipers at Al-Aqsa Mosque and on Gaza.

The two leaders discussed the tense situation in Palestine, condemned Israeli aggression and expressed solidarity with unarmed Palestinians. Imran Khan and Mahathir Mohamad demanded that the international community take immediate steps to stop the Israeli attack.

On the other hand, the OIC, while passing a resolution condemning Israel, has said that inciting the religious sentiments of the Muslim Ummah will have dire consequences. Al-Quds and Al-Aqsa are the first qiblah of Islam and the red line of the Muslim Ummah. Until Al-Aqsa is completely free, security and peace in the region are not possible.

Addressing an emergency meeting of the OIC, Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that support for the Palestinian cause has been a clear and prominent principle of Pakistan’s foreign policy since its inception. Father of the Nation Hazrat Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah has been a strong supporter of the legitimate and just rights of the Palestinian people from the very beginning.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that he would like to express his views openly without putting on the veil. Pakistan, deprived of its defense, is shocked at the illegal, indiscriminate and barbaric use of force by the Israeli occupying forces against the Palestinians, oppression, dictatorship and injustice.

The Foreign Minister said that words were not enough to condemn the barbarism and organized crimes against the Palestinians. The deteriorating situation in Occupied Palestine is intolerable due to the actions of the Israeli army, its colonial policies, and its continued aggression, siege, and cruel treatment of the collective population.
