Prime Minister Shehbaz Shareef’s Courageous and Historic address at General Assembly

 By Rasheed Ahmeed

Prime Minister Mian Shehbaz Sharif’s address to the United Nations General Assembly was the speech of a prudent, courageous, and astute statesman. In his speech, the Prime Minister candidly highlighted Pakistan’s key issues—terrorism, Indian aggression, the overall regional situation, and Israel’s atrocities against Palestinian Muslims, particularly in Gaza. Presenting these matters fearlessly on such a major global forum enhanced Pakistan’s dignity, honour, and significance. Today, the world listens to Pakistan and accords weight to its voice. The sanctity of Al-Aqsa Mosque and the plight of Palestinian Muslims remain Pakistan’s red line, and Pakistan will always stand firmly with its Palestinian brothers.

In May, India waged war against Pakistan by fabricating the Pahalgam incident. However, Pakistan exercised its legitimate right to self-defence, inflicted a humiliating defeat on India, and compelled the world to acknowledge its strength. The timely mediation of U.S. President Donald Trump brought the war to an end. By shooting down seven of India’s so-called invincible fighter jets, Pakistan proved its military might and joined the ranks of the world’s powerful nations. In his address, the Prime Minister once again urged the international community to hold an impartial investigation into the Pahalgam incident, thereby exposing the aggressive mindset of the Indian government.

The Prime Minister made it clear that Pakistan desires peace and is ready for comprehensive dialogue on all outstanding issues. He emphasized that Pakistan’s foreign policy is based on mutual respect and cooperation, and that the country seeks the peaceful resolution of disputes. He categorically demanded an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering support for the establishment of both Azad Kashmir’s autonomy and an independent Palestinian state.

In his speech, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also expressed concern over natural disasters and climate change, describing them as grave threats to Pakistan’s future. The extraordinary protocol extended by the U.S. President during the General Assembly session was evidence that Pakistan can no longer be ignored in global affairs. Owing to its successful foreign policy, Pakistan has become the focus of international attention.

At present, what is most required is that the government concentrate on internal issues, foremost among them inflation, law and order, and unemployment. Undoubtedly, Pakistan is passing through one of the most decisive phases in its history. With the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the guidance of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, the country is moving forward with resilience and confidence
