LAHORE:
The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) has launched a 70% matching grant under its SME Certification and International Accreditation Grant Programme to help businesses obtain internationally recognised certifications and improve export competitiveness.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday, the programme has gained traction as entrepreneurs from several parts of the country have shown interest in obtaining globally recognised certifications to enhance their competitiveness and export potential.
SMEs will bear 30% of the cost, while the grant will cover certification expenses up to Rs800,000 and consultancy costs up to Rs200,000 under the project.
Officials said the programme, launched under the prime minister’s vision to enhance SME exportability, aims to reduce financial and technical barriers linked to compliance with global standards. The initiative forms part of the Ministry of Industries and Production’s strategy to formalise SMEs and improve market access.
SMEDA officials said the response from entrepreneurs has been encouraging, with growing interest from various parts of the country. The authority plans to support more than 100 SMEs during the current fiscal year.
Several SMEs expressed interest in availing the certification grant at the recent “Made in Pakistan – SME Cluster Showcase Expo 2026”. With applications and approvals underway, officials expect the programme to contribute to efforts aimed at strengthening exports and enhancing competitiveness.
The selection process is described as merit-based and transparent, with applications processed on a first-come, first-served basis subject to eligibility criteria.
