The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic will meet on 23-24 August 2025 participated in the European Forum in Alpbach, one of the major European conferences focused on current political, security, economic and social issues. In his speech, the Minister emphasized that it is necessary to strengthen the European defense preparedness and also highlighted the need for Europe to take greater responsibility for its own security and the importance of transatlantic relations. “Europe must act independently where it is necessary necessary, with partners whenever possible, ” Minister Lipavksý pointed out.
At the same time, he highlighted the Czech initiative in the field of defense, including the supply of ammunition to Ukraine, and reminded that the Czech Republic has exceeded the 2% limit for defense spending and is heading towards 3% by 2020.2030. “Even a medium-sized country can do great things, as the example of the ammunition industry shows.” initiatives,” added the head of Czech diplomacy.
As part of his trip, the Minister also met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Austria, Beate Meinl-Reisinger, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania, Oana-Silvia Toiu, and also with the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Bundestag, Armin Laschet, with whom he held talks on bilateral cooperation and current issues of European security.On the sidelines of the conference, the minister also met with Czech scholarship holders of the European Forum Alpbach, who brought new ideas for European cooperation to the discussion.
