Visit of Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar to  Prague

Minister of Foreign Affairs Petr Macinka held talks with his Israeli counterpart Gideon Saar on January 20, 2026. The main topics of the meeting were the situation in the Middle East, including the implementation of the peace plan in  Gaza, economic and security cooperation, innovation, modern technology and the overall deepening of ties between the two countries.

“Gideon Saar was the first foreign minister I spoke with on the phone at the end of last year. This is evidence of the strong friendship between the Czech Republic and Israel, which our government will further deepen,” said the head of Czech diplomacy Petr Macinka.

Both sides agreed that the upcoming period will be an opportunity for new joint projects and for further deepening relations between the Czech Republic and Israel. Gideon Saar also invited the Czech minister to visit Israel.

Minister Macinka also decided today to continue the mandate of Robert Řehák, the Foreign Ministry’s special representative for Holocaust issues, interfaith dialogue and freedom of religion. He also expanded his mission to include the fight against anti-Semitism.

The visit of the head of Israeli diplomacy took place in the days when both countries commemorate an important milestone in mutual relations: the establishment of a consulate in Jerusalem 100 years ago.

During his visit to Prague, the Israeli minister held talks with Prime Minister Andrej Babiš and Senate President Miloš Vystrčil, and also met with the Czech Jewish community.
