ISLAMABAD – Federal Secretary for Narcotics Control, Akbar Durrani (TI)/PAS met with Prof. Dr. Masoom Yasinzai, the Rector of International Islamic University, Islamabad to curb the menace of drugs from Educational Institutions. It was mutually agreed upon that drugs hold a massive threat to the future of our youth and awareness campaign at the level of educational institutions is very important. The Federal Secretary for Narcotics Control, Akbar Durrani (TI)/PAS was of the view that students must understand the gravity of the situation and they must comprehend the fact that utilization of drugs can lead to a life threatening condition. He further said that it will not only impact an individual but family as a whole. The Federal Secretary reinforced the idea that students should be sensitized about how this can put their loved ones into a miserable situation. Honorable Rector IIUI agreed with the stance and assured full cooperation to the Ministry of Narcotics Control in this cause. The delegates of MNC shared details of anti drugs policy and how the primary focus was put on the demand reduction. The IIUI delegation appreciated the efforts of MNC in working towards creation of drug free society. They also purposed the idea of conducting research regarding the said topic and emphasized upon the fact that it will help in identifying the root causes of drug consumption and play a key role in formulation of strategic approach against increased use of drugs amongst the youth. The Federal Secretary welcomed the idea and said together with mutual cooperation we can achieve our goal of drug free Pakistan. He further said that it is a national cause and we should all actively play our role in this.
The meeting was attended by Prof. Dr. N. B. Jumani, Vice President, Prof. Dr. Ayaz Afsar, Vice President(Academics), Dr. Abrar Anwer, Dr. Humaira Ashfaq, Provost, Dr. Touqeer Hussain Sargana, Dr. Sumayya Chughtai, Student Advisor, IIUI and Seniors officials of the Ministry of Narcotics Control.
