Modern technology should be used for uninterrupted supply of electricity to bill paying consumers: PM

Prime Minister Imran Khan has directed that modern technology be used at the grid stations to provide uninterrupted power supply to the customers who pay their bills regularly.

A meeting of the Council of Common Interests was held in Islamabad under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Imran Khan. Energy Minister Hamad Azhar gave a briefing on the plan to increase power generation. The participants were informed that detailed consultations have been held with all the provinces and the Azad Kashmir government regarding this plan.

The Council of Common Interests also approved the proposed IGSAP estimates and the inclusion of hydropower in the renewable energy targets.

Prime Minister Imran Khan said that the main objective of IGSAP was to formulate a comprehensive strategy for the future in the energy sector so as to ensure power generation as per the need while providing electricity to the people at low cost. He said the government was reforming the power generation, transmission and distribution system to make the system more efficient.

The Council of Common Interests directed the Energy Division to finalize the “wheeling” policy as soon as possible.
